Microsoft has decided to discontinue its Windows Live Messenger (MSN Messenger) serviceand has asked its users to start using Skype and migrate their MSN buddies on it. Any kind of new change often confuses the users and also frustrates them, but believe me this task is not going to be troublesome at all. It’s only a matter of few clicks and you are good to go. As we all know that you can talk to your Facebook friends as well on Skype, by adding MSN buddies to it will make it a solid Communication messenger where you can chat, make voice and video calls with all of your friends at one place.
Note: If you have never used Skype before then don’t worry, just visit the Skype, download their latest messenger, install it in your PC and follow below steps to see how to use it as an alternate to MSN messenger.
1. When you double click Skype icon on the desktop or try to open it from the Start Menu, you will see its login screen similar to below picture
2. Whether you are a new or old Skype user, just click Microsoft Account button to log into the Skype messenger with Microsoft credentials.
3. Now enter your Hotmail / Outlook username with password and click Sign In button
4. Now Skype will give you 2 options:
a. If you already have a Skype account and want to merge your Skype buddies with MSN buddies, then click I have a Skype Account button
b. If you have never used Skype before or you don’t want to merge your Skype buddies with MSN buddies, then click I’m new to Skype button
a. If You Already Have A Skype Account
1. If you already have a Skype account and want to merge your Skype buddies with MSN buddies, then click I have a Skype Account button
2. Now enter your Skype username with password and click Sign In button
3. Skype is asking you now to always Sign-in with your Microsoft account (hotmail) in Skype messenger. Click Continue button
4. That’s it. You can see now all of your Skype and Msn buddies in one interface.
5. Since I have also authenticated my Facebook account with Skype, that’s why all of my Facebook friends are also available on Skype.
6. On the messenger, you can clearly see all of your online buddies. But If you just want to see who is available online on Skype or Facebook or on Msn Messenger, then just click the All button and select the required option from the menu.
b. If You Are A New Skype User
1. If you have never used Skype before or you don’t want to merge your Skype buddies with MSN buddies, then click I’m new to Skype button
2. Skype is asking you to agree with their terms and conditions. Click I agree – join Skypebutton
3. In the following screens, Skype will ask you to configure your headset, webcam and profile picture. You can make the configuration now or later from the Messenger options.
4. After all that finally you can see your MSN buddies in the Skype messenger.
Since I don’t have any friend in my Hotmail ID, that’s why my Skype’s friend list is empty.
